Laurence John: STANDARD UTOPIAN LJSU02

The LJSU02 is an interpretation of the longer 1920s pocket sweater, a style which was available throughout the ‘20s, peaking in popularity around 1927 and then overtaken by the shorter bodied sweaters more usually seen with the wide legged trousers of the ‘30s (see the LJSU01).

The fine jacquard knit and geometric pattern uses a rare British late ‘20s - early ‘30s pull-over from my own collection as a starting point, which was then adapted to resemble a British catalogue illustration from the late '20s (above). Similar pull-overs from German photographs of the period were studied for neck ribbing and pocket details.

This longer pull-over is designed to be neat fitting. The lack of bottom ribbing gives it a smooth line over the waist and hips.

100% wool.
